Coppelstock

Those who are familiar with Dutch history will know that Coppelstock was the ferryman who manned the ferry to Den Briel in 1572.

We won't go into the role here that Coppelstock played in the conquest of Den Briel. Suffice to say that he probably spent many a stormy night here in the house that is named after him.

The plaque on the front of Coppelstock's house shows the "hengst" (boat) that was once used as a ferry, and that is why it is still known today as the 'veerknol' (loosely translated as: "the sailing stallion").
